German Federal Environment Agency (UBA - Umweltbundesamt)

The German Federal Environmental Agency is the central federal authority for issues regarding the environment. It was founded in 1974 with tasks in supporting the Federal Ministry of the Environment as regards issues of environmental protection, health, scientific expertise in the execution of law, collection and dissemination of environmental data, as well as public awareness raising.

The FEA extensively deals with transport problems and solutions. Some of the topics covered in this area are Urban Transport, the introduction of Strategic Environmental Assessment into the planning of traffic routes according to the respective EU directive, competition in Urban Transport, CO2-reduction, collection of tolls, taxation of kerosene, as well as emission trade in international aviation.
